Now the Baggies, exceptional at home for the most part of Corberan’s one-year tenure, will have to guard against the rock-bottom Owls gunning for a first Championship victory anywhere this season.

Wednesday have mustered just two points from nine games under boss Xisco Munoz, who controversially replaced Darren Moore after the former Albion defender and boss led the Hillsborough side to League One play-off success last term.

Spaniard Munoz is under heavy fire after a hapless start to the campaign with a majority of the Owls fanbase calling for change. The head coach admitted after Friday night’s defeat to Sunderland that he was unclear on his own future. There is, of course, uproar further upstairs at Hillsborough, with controversial Thai owner Dejphon Chansiri not endearing himself with wild and unwise statements.

Most of this will be of little importance to Munoz’s compatriot Corberan, who will be guarded against a wounded beast in Wednesday.

All of the expectancy, and thus perhaps pressure, is on an Albion win tonight. Those type of fixtures can be dangerous, particularly if the hosts don’t make hay in the early stages, and instead allow the Owls to grow in confidence.

Indeed Albion’s head coach labelled Munoz’s visitors as “dangerous” due to their winless record.

“It doesn’t mean anything for the future,” Corberan said after his side swatted aside high-flying PNE. “At the end, on Tuesday, we have another one.

“The fact that they haven’t won yet makes them very dangerous. More than them, we are going to talk about us – we must keep this level of concentration, maturity and personality they showed here.”

Corberan continued: “I think the result and performance from Saturday just needs to help us know how much importance there is to play the game with so much determination from the beginning to the end.

“As soon as you don’t keep this level... it is not important who you are against, previous results, the only important thing is how you perform every single time you are in the pitch.”

The Albion boss will be weighing up a decision to reward an unchanged side from Saturday’s drubbing against the challenges of a busy week.

Saturday-Tuesday-Friday fixtures pose a tester for managers but Corberan may well believe he has to opt for an unchanged XI.

Still, Albion’s squad – modest in size – gave an example of its quality and depth on Saturday. Corberan has made five changes to his side for two games in a row. He may be tempted by more due to the schedule, having left out Brandon Thomas-Asante for the entirety at Preston, but his line-up will feel they’ve earned another crack.
