Darrell Clarke is happy with faith from Walsall board

Walsall manager Darrell Clarke's relationship with the club's board is blossoming as the hierarchy plan for long-term success.

In an interview with the Express & Star last week, chairman Leigh Pomlett insisted he never considered sacking Clarke during the club's six-game losing streak in October, as he looks to build for the future with the manager at the helm.

In response Clarke says he has 'bought into' the structure at the club as they aim for promotion back to League One.

"I have a fantastic relationship with the people that are here," he said.

"The structure in place that I came to join was one of being sensible with how we do things and build things.

"I really bought into that and the chairman I get on great with.

"We just want to keep working hard as a group of people.

"I think you can see the spirit in the team and at the training ground.

"The environment that we've got here is set, now we just want to get more consistent results.

"It's nice to have the support of the hierarchy."

That faith is also being shown in the transfer window with the club moving to secure young winger Jack Nolan and midfielder Nathan Sheron.

Now Clarke is aiming to bring in an 'experienced' wide player to rival Nolan and Wes McDonald.

"I want another wide player, I'm looking for one with a bit more experience," he said.

"That's on the radar and I think that will help us as well.

"I certainly haven't brought Jack in to go and start every game from now until the end of the season.

"Let's get him finding his feet.

"I still think we need that experienced player.

"Not an over the hill wide player, but someone who has played over 100 games would be ideal.

"They're difficult to get hold of in this market but we'll be searching for that one until the last minute."
