The Saddlers host Bradford tomorrow having scored just once in their last six outings.

That barren spell has put the spotlight on the team’s strikers with Gordon, Elijah Adebayo and Rory Gaffney yet to open their accounts this season.

But Gordon insists he remains full of confidence and he is adamant the goals will soon flow.

“Even the top strikers in the world have little ruts,” the 24-year-old said.

“It’s just finding the right way to handle it so you can get out of it.

“It can be difficult to keep your confidence but as long as you believe in your own ability and have a positive attitude, you will get out of it.

“I don’t want to put pressure on myself because I know the goals will come. They did last season.

“It’s just a case of finding that momentum – when you have got that, they come.”

While Walsall have struggled going forward, they have looked solid defensively with the team having already kept four clean sheets.

And Gordon believes that solidity means they can now focus more on creating chances and scoring goals.

“It’s been a bit slow start for us but there have still been positives,” the former Leicester man continued.

“Defensively we have been solid, especially compared to last season.

“And from that we can now start looking forward.

“With have struggled with creativity a little bit – it’s not just the strikers, it is the team collectively.

“But now we can focus on that creativity and when that’s nailed on we’ll be there.

“We have lacked quality a little bit. But it will come and then we will be sound.”

Gordon is one of just a few players who are still at the club from last season with 23 departures over the summer.

But he is enjoying working with the new group.

“It’s been good, a breath of fresh air to be honest,” he said.

“We have had a lot of players come in, some experienced, some younger.

“I think it’s a nice balance and I think everyone is on a good wavelength.

“It can be tricky integrating so many new players.

"But as players and a coaching staff we have bonded quickly.

“There are no big egos, everyone is easy to get on with.”
