The 20-year-old defender is out of contract at the end of next month and does not know whether he will be offered a new deal at The Hawthorns.

Fitzwater impressed while on loan with Walsall during the second half of the season, making 16 appearances and scoring three goals as he helped the Saddlers avoid relegation from League One.

And he said: “I’ve really enjoyed my time at Walsall and I want to keep testing myself. If there is an option to come here and play I will definitely consider it. I’ve got game time this season so why can’t I do it next season?”

He continued: “I am out of contract and there are numerous meetings going on. We are just going to have to see what happens over the next few weeks.

“If I stay, I stay at West Brom. If I get to play wherever they are – Premier League or Championship I will play.

“But if I have to go out and ply my trade somewhere else I will go and do that. I’m sure everyone can see I will put my body on the line wherever I go.”

Fitzwater revealed has been in regular contact with Baggies caretaker boss Darren Moore, who was the club’s development coach before stepping up to assume responsibility of the first-team.

“He still texts me and he text me on Friday just to congratulate me on my performances,” said Fitzwater.

“He said I’ve done really well. I have always kept in contact with the academy manager there and also Jimmy Shan, the under-23s coach.

“They are all really happy for me. And it’s great to see them stepping in and doing a great job as caretaker managers.

“They have done really well and I’m really pleased for them.”
