Walsall hope Febian Brandy will turn down Blades

Walsall manager Dean Smith today admitted he will be disappointed if attacker Febian Brandy chooses to join League One rivals Sheffield United.

The Blades are the latest club to be linked with the former Manchester United trainee, whose contract at the Banks's expires at the end of the month.

Negotiations between the Saddlers and the 24-year-old have been ongoing for months but the two sides have so far been unable to reach a deal.

Smith has revealed he drove to meet Brandy for talks midway between the Midlands and the forward's Manchester home earlier this week.

He claims Brandy has indicated he wants to play Championship football so says a sideways move to the Blades would be disappointing.

Smith said: "We had a really good chat. One thing he did say to me was if we were a Championship team he would definitely sign.

"He has got plans on playing at a higher level so if it was Sheffield United he went to I would be disappointed.

"I feel he has got something here, he can really go and develop and get back to where he was in his days with Manchester United.

"I feel we have given him a fantastic opportunity here."

The future of 20-goal striker Will Grigg is the other big unanswered question of the Saddlers' summer so far.
