Report: Stourbridge 2 Colwyn Bay 0

Stourbridge moved to sixth spot with two late goals - but the figure that mattered was 600.

Leon Broadhurst made his 600th appearance for the club and a special presentation was made to him afterwards.

The midfielder will have enjoyed other games more than this sometimes scrappy and bad-tempered Evo-Stik Northern Premier League affair.

But it remained quite an entertaining match, albeit a frustrating one for the Glassboys who toiled against 10 men for a breakthrough which didn't come until the 75th minute.

Stourbridge pressed from the start, with early chances for Sean Geddes and Karl Hawley, and their chances of victory looked greatly improved with a sending-off for the visitors on 18 minutes.

Chris Lait embarked on an amazing run from the edge of his own penalty area to that of the opposition, leaving defenders trailing in his wake.

But he was impeded by defender Jordan Fagbola, with the referee deciding he had denied a goalscoring opportunity and dismissing him.

Stourbridge couldn't take advantage right away, Hawley sending a volley over the bar and Justin Richards looping a header wide.

The second period was equally frustrating, with Stourbridge unable to create clear-cut chances.

Colwyn Bay almost took advantage when Liam Gibson's free-kick from the left was headed poorly wide by Antonie Boland.

The vital goal eventually came on 75 minutes when Geddes' corner was met by Dan Scarr whose header lacked pace but found its way into the net through a crowd of players.

Stuart Pierpoint saw a deflected header into the net disallowed for offside, as Stourbridge looked for the second.

But they doubled the lead in injury time when substitute Drew Canavan produced a delightful ball for Ashley Vincent to slam home at the far post.

Stourbridge manager Gary Hackett was delighted to get the win and said his team's patience paid off in the end.

He said: "Fair play to Colwyn Bay. They came to do a job and got men behind the ball.

"They made it difficult and it was getting quite frustrating at times, so it was a patience game and we had to wait. But I had no doubt once we got the first goal that we would go on and get a second.

"I'm delighted to get the three points. I was pleased with the way the players applied themselves. At one stage everyone was getting frustrated, but we stuck at it."

Stourbridge travel to Nantwich Town in the FA Trophy tomorrow night, with Scarr out for 10 days and Matt Dodd suspended.
