Non-league round-up: Stafford Rangers handed thrashing, as Chasetown rescue a draw

Stafford Rangers and Chasetown were in league action on Tuesday night.

Stafford Rangers’ winning start drew to an abrupt halt, as they were condemned to a 4-0 defeat against Shifnal Town at Marston Road in the Northern One West.

Zeli Ismail opened the scoring after 20 minutes, before goals from Andre Landell and Luke Edwards propelled Shifnal into a 3-0 lead before half-time.

Rangers’ evening went from bad to worse when Remi Efunugga was sent off and Ismail put the seal on the win by bagging his brace eight minutes from time.

That brought Rangers’ four-match winning streak to an end, as Shifnal moved into top spot in the embryonic table.

Chasetown are still searching for their first win of the season, but still salvaged a 1-1 draw at Newcastle Town.

Luca Whitney fired the hosts into the lead from the spot in the 34th-minute, before Matt Hearsey got Chasetown back on level terms just past the hour-mark.

That point leaves Chasetown winless in their first three points and third from bottom in the table.
