Non-league clubs can’t expect to get bailout

Non-league clubs including Stafford Rangers and Chasetown have been warned not to count on a financial bailout during the coronavirus crisis.

The sudden shutdown of the season is expected to cost clubs in the Northern Premier League a combined £3.25million and has left some facing a cashflow problem.

Officials have been busy lobbying the government, FA and Premier League for additional support.

But in a league-wide memo seen by the Express & Star, clubs have been advised the chances of getting extra funding from within the game is currently ‘remote’.

Pressure on clubs is not helped by the fact they remain duty bound to honour any player contracts up until the first weekend in May, despite the season being set to end early.

The Northern League, together with the Southern League and Isthmian League, have already begun the process of terminating the campaign, with official confirmation from the FA expected in the coming days.
