Loss gives Bruce the Blues

Under-fire manager Steve Bruce was today braced for crunch talks with the Birmingham board as his St Andrew's future hung in the balance.

Bruce expects to meet with co-owner David Sullivan and chairman David Gold in the next two days after the pressure on him increased with another home defeat last night.

Bruce vowed not to quit, but admitted he expects talks to take place in the aftermath of last night's woeful 1-0 home defeat by Norwich and their new manager Peter Grant. Blues have dropped to ninth place in the Championship after collecting just two points from the last 15 and they are 11 adrift of leaders Cardiff.

Bruce said: "Will my position be under threat? You've got to ask other people that. "Whatever happens, I've had five wonderful years so you will have to ask other people that. Do I anticipate speaking to David Gold and David Sullivan over the next couple of days? I would think so."

He admitted: "As the manager you take the brunt of it when things go wrong, take it on the chin and then dust yourself down and go again - if you can.

"But I made that decision in the summer with the board that I wanted to try and build a new team here and I do believe, despite how bad we were against Norwich, that there will be a lot of good players here in the future with the youngsters we've got."
