The 21-year-old, who signed from Burton Albion in the summer of 2016, has grown into a key player in the Harriers squad because of his consistency and versatility.

And having started 17 times this term – reaching 65 appearances in total – chairman Colin Gordon is delighted to secure Austin’s future at Aggborough.

He said: “What can you say about Sam Austin? He’s the most consistent footballer we’ve got. He loves his work and is in every day – he doesn’t want to go home!

“If work-rate and desire equals having a good career then Sammy Austin is destined for great things.”

Harriers return to National North action at Leamington tomorrow (3pm), hoping to extend an unbeaten league run that stretches back to September 12.

That has lifted John Eustace’s team to seventh in the table – the final play-off position – although they are 13 points behind leaders Salford City, who hold the only automatic promotion spot.

Harriers have kept three consecutive clean sheets going into the match, including a 2-0 triumph over rivals AFC Telford United at Aggborough on New Year’s Day.

After Saturday, Harriers embark on a tough run of five games in 18 days, which could potentially be six should they need a replay when they face Stockport in the FA Trophy.
