Floodlight appeal launched as Stourbridge FC plans ground improvements

Stourbridge FC has launched a major fundraising campaign to support the installation of new floodlights as part of ongoing redevelopment works at the War Memorial Athletic Ground.

The club, which is marking its 150th anniversary season, has secured planning permission for improvements to the ground on High Street, Stourbridge. Central to the project is the replacement of the existing floodlight system, which officials say is nearing the end of its operational life.

While some funding has been made available through the Premier League Stadium Fund, approximately £50,000 is required overall to complete the installation, and an appeal has therefore been launched to encourage supporters, local businesses and community groups to contribute towards the shortfall.

Around £10,000 has already been raised through a combination of private donations and grassroots fundraising efforts. Contributors include members of the local community and youth teams affiliated with the club.

"Stourbridge Football Club has always been more than just a football team," a statement on the GoFundMe page said. "It's a community, a legacy, and a place where dreams take shape under the roar of the crowd. But now, we need your help to keep the future bright - literally.

"As part of the new redevelopment our floodlights are in urgent need of replacement. Without them, evening matches, training sessions, and community events are at risk. We’re launching the Stourbridge FC Floodlight Fund to mark our 150th anniversary and raise vital funds needed to install modern, energy-efficient lighting that will serve our club and supporters for years to come."

The club has invited donations of all sizes and is encouraging supporters to assist by organising fundraising initiatives or promoting the campaign locally.

"We have already raised £10,000.00 with a donation of £5000 from The Mantle family, £2500 from the Lucky 7 fund and a further £2500 from our amazing under 15 girls team who ran a total of 61 mile in the summer with one of the girls dads Jamie achieving all of the 61 miles himself," a club spokesperson said. "We would like to thank all those who have already contributed."
