Wolves 2 Villa 0 - Villa player ratings

We rate the performance of Villa's players in Saturday's 2-0 derby defeat at Wolves.

Emi Martinez

Beaten at his near post for the opener but then kept Villa in the match by saving from Cunha and Guedes. Could have done better.

Beaten 6

Andres Garcia

Thrown in at the deep end for his first-ever top flight start and was responsible for helping play Bellegarde onside. A tough baptism for the Spaniard.

Overwhelmed 5

Ezri Konsa

Won a decent portion of the 33 fouls in the match. Decent enough but this was proof he cannot do everything himself.

Fouled 7

Boubacar Kamara

Found it is much harder to play against Premier League opposition in defence than the likes of Celtic. Will be happy to see a defender recruited.

Targeted 5

Lucas Digne

Rarely seen in an attacking role as many of Villa’s first half moves went down the right wing. One of four taken off at the break.

Quiet 5

Youri Tielemans

Will be frustrated at some of his set piece deliveries. Tried to make things happen on the ball but much like Villa he was not quite on it.

Frustrated 6

Lamare Bogarde

Started in midfield and then found himself at right-back for the second half. Acquitted himself well and will only learn from the experience.

Busy 6

John McGinn

Another player who found himself shifting position as the game went on. Struggled to find any rhythm bar a few good moments.

Frazzled 5

Morgan Rogers

Found in space a few times in the early stages but could not do much with it. Well shackled and frustrated by the home side.

Shackled 5

Jacob Ramsey

Early run, which ended with him being fouled, suggested he might pick up where he left off against Celtic but things rather fizzled after that.

Disappointing 5

Ollie Watkins

Difficult to remember a more anonymous performance from Watkins, though the muscle pain may have contributed to that.

Injured 5

Substitutes

Amadou Onana 5 (for Ramsey, HT), Leon Bailey 6 (for Watkins, HT), Donyell Malen 6 (for Garcia, HT), Ian Maatsen 6 (for Digne, HT), Kosta Nedeljkovic (for Bogarde, 83) Subs not used: Swinkels, Jimoh, Zych (gk), Olsen (gk).
