James Collins reacts well to Wales axe

James Collins has reacted positively to being axed by Wales boss Gary Speed according to Villa manager Alex McLeish – who has tipped him to win back his place in the side.

Collins was overlooked for Wales' recent Euro 2012 qualifier against England as Speed opted to partner Cardiff's Darcy Blake with Swansea's Ashley Williams at the heart of the defence.

Blake responded with an impressive performance as he shackled in-form Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney as England struggled as they ground out a 1-0 win at Wembley.

Collins, who has won 39 caps for Wales, was forced to watch the contest from the bench but McLeish insisted the 28-year-old centre-back had returned to the club with the right attitude.

"He came back and I chatted to him about it because sometimes it can affect your head," said the Villa boss.
