Brett Holman to hold talks over Australia call-up

Brett Holman today admitted he will consult Villa boss Paul Lambert before he heads off to play in a friendly for Australia this week.

Socceroos coach Holger Osieck named the playmaker in his squad for a friendly against Scotland at Easter Road on Wednesday along with Villa team-mate Chris Herd.

But with Villa set to kick off their Premier League campaign against West Ham at Upton Park a few days later, Holman confirmed he will speak to Lambert to clarify his involvement in the match.

"I haven't really discussed it with this manager and I haven't spoken with the Australian team manager about it either at this stage," said Holman.

"I think I'll have a chat with our manager here just to see what the situation is and all that stuff. But I think Australia have selected a fairly big squad so I presume he wouldn't go too crazy with it."

Lambert will fine tune his preparations for Villa's opener against the Hammers with a friendly against Bundesliga outfit Werder Bremen later today.

Left-back Stephen Warnock was not part of the squad which travelled.
