Aston Villa 4 Newcastle 1: Player ratings
We rate the players after Aston Villa's stunning 4-1 win over Newcastle.

Emi Martinez
Might feel he should have done better with the goal, which went through his legs. Made up for it with some very good distribution.
Kicking 7
Matty Cash
Did a decent job of shackling Harvey Barnes for most of the day and then Anthony Gordon. A decent attacking outlet too.
Busy 8
Ezri Konsa
Guilty of playing Schar onside for the Newcastle leveller but that was the only blip in another impressive performance.
Solid 7
Tyrone Mings
Won several big headers and together with Konsa helped to render Alexander Isak a spectator. A rock at the back.
Imperious 8
Ian Maatsen
Is really coming into his own and would deserve to keep his place against Manchester City. Took his goal brilliantly.
Strike 8
Boubacar Kamara
Took the breath away with some superb first touches. Never seems to be under any stress even when there are three players running at him.
Class 8
Youri Tielemans
At some point you keep thinking the Belgium international is going to tire. Another assist for Watkins. Another classy performance.
Maestro 9
John McGinn
Must have covered every blade of grass and that was only in the first half. Backed up his PSG showing with another superb performance.
Relentless 8
Marco Asensio
Some nice touches but he really should have buried Maatsen’s cross to restore Villa’s lead almost as soon as it was lost. Missing a little sparkle.
Miscue 6
Morgan Rogers
Struggling to make an impact before Emery swapped him with McGinn and he immediately brought a save from Pope. Moves with the ball so gracefully.
Menace 8
Ollie Watkins
There have been a few occasions in his Villa career where Watkins has been simply unplayable. Two of them have been against Newcastle.
Angry 9
Substitutes
Jacob Ramsey 8 (for Asensio, 72), Amadou Onana 8 (for McGinn, 72), Marcus Rashford (for Watkins, 82) Donyell Malen (for Rogers, 82), Ross Barkley (for Kamara, 82) Subs not used: Disasi, Digne, Garcia, Olsen (gk).
