Agbonlahor to continue as Aston Villa captain

Gabby Agbonlahor will continue as Aston Villa captain in the absence of regular skipper Stiliyan Petrov who has started his treatment for acute leukaemia.

It had been reported that the forward had been named as the club's new skipper until the end of the season but the club have subsequently confirmed that no official or formal appointment has taken place.

Vice-captain Richard Dunne would have been next in line to wear the armband but he is currently on the sidelines with a fractured collarbone so Agbonlahor, who was given the captaincy by boss Alex McLeish for Villa's Premier League clash against Chelsea last weekend, will simply continue in the role .
