Matt Targett: Aston Villa have no fear of Chelsea

Matt Targett claims ‘fearless’ Villa are relishing the prospect of taking on another Premier League big gun when they visit Chelsea tomorrow night.

Villa head to Stamford Bridge to face the fourth-placed hosts, aiming to build on Sunday’s 2-2 draw at Manchester United.

That result followed encouraging displays away at Tottenham, Arsenal and Manchester City earlier in the season and Targett said: “These big teams, we are not afraid of them.

“You look through the results and anyone can beat anyone in this league and that is what makes it so exciting.”

On that note, Chelsea head into the match looking to bounce back from a shock 1-0 home defeat to West Ham.

Targett added: “It is the Premier League and all games are tough. It is another exciting game but it will be different from Manchester United.

“I think they have more quality so we have to be wary of them. But we have competed against Man City for 45 minutes, Arsenal and Tottenham and on Sunday against Manchester United.”

Left-back Targett believes the manner in which Villa claimed their point at Old Trafford – equalising through Tyrone Mings shortly after going 2-1 down – will boost confidence in the dressing room.

“The mentality we always have is to keep going,” he said. “We weren’t holding back.

“We know we can compete with these teams when we are at it.”
