The 26-year-old defender joins from Bournemouth after a very successful loan spell at Villa Park during the second half of last season.

Mings played 18 times, scoring twice and becoming a fans’ favourite. The deal is believed to be £20m plus add-ons.

Mings was unveiled in the new Villa home kit for 2019/20. He will now join the rest of the squad on a US tour, which begins later this week.

Villa boss Dean Smith said: “We’re really pleased to have Tyrone back at Aston Villa on a permanent basis.

“I think everybody could see the connection that he made with the club as a whole and it is excellent news that we can continue the relationship in the Premier League.

“He will be an integral part of the squad for the new season and I look forward to working with him and helping to further develop his game.

Mings was back in Birmingham yesterday to tie up the loose ends of the much-anticipated deal.

His successful loan spell culminated in May’s play-off final victory over Derby with the defender already established as a huge fans’ favourite after a string of dominant centre-half showings on Villa’s run into the play-offs.

He was yesterday seen being photographed ahead of an official announcement after the claret and blues and Bournemouth finally thrashed out a deal, which is thought to include a number of adds-ons for the Cherries.
