Scott Hogan is set to depart Villa with the striker closing in on a loan switch to Sheffield United.

The 26-year-old is set to join the Blades, who sit third in the Championship - seven places above Villa - until the end of the season.

Hogan has struggled to live up to his £12million price tag after joining Villa in a big money move from Brentford two years ago.

This season has seen him limited to just 68 minutes of action in the Championship, while his only start came in the 3-0 FA Cup third round defeat to Swansea earlier this month.

Blades boss Chris Wilder has now offered him a route out of Villa Park and deal could be completed later on Tuesday night.

Attacking prospect Callum O’Hare has already departed, having joined League Two Carlisle on loan until the end of the season.

Midfielder Birkir Bjarnason is also facing an uncertain future and could exit before Thursday night’s deadline, should Villa receive an appropriate offer.

Villa are edging closer to completing a deal for Bournemouth defender Tyrone Mings, though no deal between the clubs has yet been agreed.

Albion were also keeping tabs on the 25-year-old but are understood to have now cooled their interest.
