Aston Villa boss Dean Smith: Let’s have positive end to week

Villa boss Dean Smith has urged his new team to turn a mixed first week of action into a good one with victory over QPR tomorrow night.

Smith got his Villa reign off to a winning start last weekend with a 1-0 win over Swansea, but defeat to in-form Norwich City on Tuesday night brought the club back down to earth with a bump.

The new boss is looking for a response from his side on Friday and will be boosted by the return of influential midfielder John McGinn, who sat out the midweek match through suspension.

“A win on Friday would make for a good six days,” said Smith. “It’s all about what we do next.

“We’ve got QPR live on the television again at the end of the week

“We’ll go and recover well and try to be ready for it.”

Smith has warned supporters it may take time for his methods to bear fruit at Villa, but even though they lost on Tuesday, he was more happier with the energy levels in the second half than he was on Saturday.

He’s looking for further progress at Loftus Road tomorrow against another in-form side.

Smith is expecting striker Tammy Abraham to be available after suffering a blow to the head, but reckons winger Albert Adomah will miss out.

“Albert has a knock on his knee,” said Smith. “It was a knee on knee. He hobbled out. It was a blow, that one, because I thought he was giving their full-back some real trouble.

“Tammy got a kick in the head. I am sure Tammy will be fine for Friday. Albert would probably be a worry.”
