The 23-year-old Scotland international playmaker leaves Scottish Premiership outfit Hibs after three years at the club, where he scored 16 times in more than 100 outings.

Villa are thought to have paid £2.1million for his services.

McGinn becomes Steve Bruce's fourth signing of the summer and the second on a permanent contract after goalkeeper Orjan Nyland checked in.

Celtic have been interested in the midfielder all summer and seen several bids rejected. They matched Villa's bid today but the Villa Park club were already on the cusp of completing his signing.

McGinn, who has nine caps for his country, said: “I’m really pleased to have joined the club. I’ve already visited Villa Park and the training ground and the set-up is incredible.

“The last 24 hours have been a bit of a whirlwind with so much going on but I can’t wait to take part in my first training session and make my debut.”
