The 20-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan at Villa Park and impressed when he played, but his stint was blighted by injury.

Boss Steve Bruce has been keen to bring him back to the club all summer, but Villa were unable to register any players until August 1 after being put under a soft transfer embargo.

Now, though, their transfer business is beginning to gather pace following the takeover.

Villa have also had a bid worth up to £6m for Bristol City defender Joe Bryan accepted, and are closing in on Norwegian goalkeeper Orjan Nyland.

Tuanzebe said: “It's great to be back. This is a big, big club and to represent it again is a big honour for me.

"It made perfect sense for me to return for the season ahead. I know my way around the place now and owe a lot to the great people who've really looked after me.

"It was a no-brainer and now the ambition remains the same as last season – to reach the Premier League.

"I believe the squad we have here are more than capable of achieving it and playing at that level.”
