Duo held talks in West Brom's new boss hunt

Rene Hake and Raphael Wicky have held talks in the running for Albion's head coach role, with an appointment closing in.

It is understood experienced Dutch coach Hake, 53, held two rounds of interviews with Albion hierarchy in London.

Swiss former Basel and Young Boys coach Wicky is also in the capital and has been strongly touted with the role. He is also believed to have held talks.

It remains to be seen whether another candidate trumps the duo. Albion are believed to be closing in on an appointment, though one was not expected prior to Saturday's FA Cup tie at Bournemouth.

Sources yesterday stressed reports claiming Erik Ten Hag's former Manchester United assistant Hake was in line to take up the role as incorrect but he remains a contender.

There was some interest in Blackburn boss John Eustace, but the former Blues and Kidderminster Harriers chief is under contract at Ewood Park and a move would have required payment to Rovers.

Compensation was not out of the question for the Baggies, but a preference remained those out of work.

Albion want the new man to be in place next week in time to prepare for the next Championship fixture at home to Stoke.
