Dave Edwards: Wolves under par in disappointing Brighton defeat
It was a disappointing afternoon at Molineux and something we haven't really seen in quite a while.

I was quite happy with the starting line-up. Larsen wasn't fit to start, but I was happy that Guedes started and we had a striker playing.
I don't particularly like it when Cunha or Munetsi are the number nine, both are better playing deeper, so to have Guedes as more of a focal point was the right move from Vitor Pereira and it was an opportunity for Guedes with his future up in the air.
Wolves made a good start to the game, both teams had a good intensity and the fans were really engaged. Down the left Cunha and Ait-Nouri were dangerous and Guedes had a couple opportunities, which you expect him to do better with.
Wolves had the VAR decision go in their favour but then so quickly gifted Brighton an opportunity, which was disappointing.
You have to give credit to Brighton, because I thought they approached the game in such a strategic and effective way, especially down their right-hand side with Wieffer and Lamptey. Wieffer was playing as a right-back, Lamptey as a right midfielder, and they weren't defending those areas and went man-for-man.
Wieffer followed Cunha everywhere. I was surprised he didn't go into the dressing room at half-time he was that close to him! Lamptey was the same with Ait-Nouri and it nullified what the pair could do.
The first goal came from Wieffer getting close to Cunha, who received the ball in a very dangerous area and on this occasion he got it wrong. Wieffer jumped at the right moment and won the ball back. It's an instinctive thing from Cunha, which everyone does, he was desperate to win the ball back and it gave Brighton the chance to go in front.
I was still very confident going into half-time that Wolves would come out in the second half and get back in the game, but it was as poor as Wolves have been for a long time, especially under Vitor Pereira, because it became very desperate in the second half.
It was a performance that we saw in the first half of the season, where it was very end-to-end. You go back to the Ipswich game, it was very similar to that. There was no control and I know that Vitor Pereira despises that.
He doesn't like a football match turning into a basketball match, where it's end-to-end with huge gaps.
You could see a lot of Wolves players down on their haunches because there was so much running involved. Whereas they're so good usually at building up slowly and then keeping the opposition camped in their own box.
It became an unpredictable game and Pereira was a really frustrated figure on the sidelines. That is a performance which I don't think we'll see too many times under him.
We know that we can play controlled football a lot better, so I don't expect it to happen again.
We've now got two big matches coming up against Crystal Palace and Brentford and it's important we go and get some positive results in those games.
It will be a big game for Brentford at the end of the season because they're fighting for Europe and you don't want the Wolves players to go into self-preservation mode and be trying to protect themselves for the summer. It does happen, I've been in that situation myself, but hopefully, we can take some momentum into next season and feel good about it.
There was a great moment at the end of the Brighton game as Mateus Mane came on for his debut.
I know from the inside of the football club how highly they think of Mane and I was really excited to see him come on.
A great moment for him regardless of the situation and the scoreline, but I thought he actually did really well considering the situation. He received the ball two or three times and he got his head up.
He was trying to drift into areas with the ball, looking forward to see if he could make things happen.
He looked very controlled, mature and exciting as well. I really hope we can see more of him in these final two games and I really hope that Mateus Mane is the one who jumps out of that academy and takes his chance because we've seen a lot of opportunities in recent years that haven't been grasped.
You look at the likes of Chirewa, Chiwome and Fraser last season, then the likes of Luke Cundle and Joe Hodge previously.
No-one's really been able to stick around in that first team and be a starter, so let's hope Mateus Mane can be that.
Let's hope he doesn't need a loan, let's hope he can have a really good pre-season and be in and around that first team squad at the start of the Premier League season next year and make a big impact.
