Dave Edwards: Opportunity missed and Wolves now need to use the transfer window wisely

Wolves missed a huge opportunity at the weekend.

Odegaard was missing for Arsenal and Saka was injured - two key men - and you hope it's a good time to play them in the midst of Champions League games as well. I was mildly optimistic before the game.

Myles Lewis-Skelly then gets that red card, which I think was extremely harsh on him, and for the first time in a long time we got the rub of the green.

It was fully there for us to take advantage of and I actually thought we finished the first half really strong.

It was before Mikel Arteta was able to change his team around tactically, able to get back in the dressing room and give out new instructions.

We had him on the ropes, but, unfortunately, that half-time whistle just came a little bit too soon.

The crowd were with the team and excited for the second half. It was such a huge opportunity to pull ourselves away from that bottom three. At minimum, get a draw, but it looks like we're going to get three points.

But I was really disappointed with the first 15 minutes of the second half.

It looked like Arsenal had the player advantage. Wolves were sitting in, trying to protect that 0-0 scoreline.

I can understand them not wanting to be too open, but you want to be the team that's dominating possession and we didn't.

Every time we won the ball back, we didn't want to counter when Arsenal were at their most vulnerable.

Once Arsenal got back into their shape we found it really difficult to break them down.

Once we got to the hour mark we started to get a bit more on top and we were able to sustain attacks because we'd built up a little bit slower, but we found it hard to break them down.

We had a brilliant counter-attack in the first half when Nelson Semedo found Pablo Sarabia with a fantastic cross and in the second half the Matheus Cunha chance was huge.

It was disappointing that we weren't able to open Arsenal up and then the killer moment was Joao Gomes' red card.

I think if Vitor Pereira had another midfielder in the building that he really trusted in that midfield two, he would have made a change at half-time.

Instead he preferred to keep Gomes out there on a tightrope over Tommy Doyle and Jean-Ricner Bellegarde and it backfired on us massively, which changed the game in an instant.

The momentum was gone, Arsenal had their tails up and they scored just four minutes later, which really hurt Wolves.

We struggled to get back into it and now it's four defeats on the bounce in the Premier League.

We have got a lot of work to do now to try and drag ourselves away because other teams will pick up points, like Leicester did at Spurs.

We know Ipswich have lots of fight in them and will pick up points as well.

We're getting cut adrift as a bottom four and those are the games you need to pick up points in when we get opportunities like that.

It's really frustrating and we now have some big games coming up. The next four, up to the Fulham game, are really difficult and then you have two huge games against Southampton and Ipswich.

We need to pick up points before those two fixtures because the pressure will build if we don't.

There's a lot of noise now from the outside for the football club to invest before the end of the transfer window.

There's not long left, but I really think they have to.

They have to bring in another midfielder to complement what Joao Gomes and Andre do.

It's quite obvious that Vitor Pereira doesn't see Doyle and Bellegarde as options in that two, unless he really has to.

Then it all depends on Larsen's injury, if we're going to bring another attacking player in without Cunha firing.

On top of that, we all know we need another centre-back.

The one signing we have brought in, Emmanuel Agbadou, has been fantastic.

He was brilliant on Saturday and our best player on the day.

It shows exactly why we needed that pace and physicality because he won every duel and used the ball reasonably well.

That shows what an impact a new signing can have coming into the group. He doesn't carry the baggage of what's happened this season, so let's hope we see some more additions.
