Cesar Peixoto issues Wolves 'environment' warning ahead of key Watford clash

The boss fears negativity in the stands could impact what happens on the pitch at Molineux.

Cesar Peixoto says he understands fan frustration at poor results - but warned Wolves stand no chance of making a Premier League return if they are divided.

The head coach used his press conference ahead of Saturday’s visit of Watford to issue a further plea for unity following a haul of just one point from the last two matches at Molineux.

Peixoto fears an unhappy atmosphere, which he views as a hangover from last season’s miserable relegation, risks impacting the confidence of players and giving opposing sides a helping hand.

He said: “We need the supporters. We have to stay together.

“We put (a message) in the stadium on the screens, when the players go together we are unstoppable.

“It is not only for the players and the staff but for the supporters also.

“We have to do it like that because you don’t win with this kind of environment. The club will win nothing with that.

“We need them, we play for them, we work for them and the players work very, very hard.

“Sometimes we do not play like we want, sometimes we don’t win. It can happen.

“I know it is clear for the people we came from the Premier League, so we have to win every game.

“I know that. We try to win every game but it is not possible. We have to fight to win to maintain our goal until the end.

“Sometimes we will be up, sometimes we will need to go again. We need to have this consistency as a team and as a club, with the supporters also.”

Peixoto, who inherited a team relegated from the top flight after winning just three matches last season, is not blind to the reasons for supporter discontent.

But he is urging fans to back players while they are on the pitch, believing visiting teams can use frustration in the stands to their advantage.

Wolves enter the weekend just five points off the top of the Championship despite taking just four points from four matches since the international break.

Peixoto said: “I understand everything. I think everything is normal. It is normal when the team don’t win, the supporters stay angry, they stay frustrated.

“It is like we stay as a club, as a technical staff, as players. All of us stay frustrated with that.

“We have to do better and try to win our home games. We want to make our home a fortress.

“It is normal, this frustration, because of the past. When the result is not good enough comes the frustration from the past.

“I understand. I can understand everything but you must almost understand this is a new team, a new season, a new Championship. We need them to not put our home as a problem for us.

“We need them because the opposing teams play with this. For sure other coaches will say to his players: ‘Go strong in the first minutes because if you are good in the game the crowd play against Wolves’.

“For sure if it was me going to play at Molineux, I would do that. The supporters have to understand we need them, the club needs them to support - and then we win.

“We are going to win for sure, we are going to fight for sure to go to the Premier League.”

Wolves’ only win this month came on the road at Burnley and Peixoto continued: “I set this exercise - if we draw at Burnley, one point, if we win at Molineux, three points, I think the mood is totally different.

“But the points are the same.

“I think people did not think we would win at Burnley - but we did.

“And for sure we were going to win against Portsmouth and we drew. We deserved to win but we drew. The way people see things, changes the feeling.”
