Cesar Peixoto: I know my best Wolves XI

The boss has made 13 changes to his line-up across the last three matches.

Cesar Peixoto says he knows his best XI at Wolves and insists changes to the line-up have been necessary to cope with the Championship’s demanding schedule.

The boss believes his side will be stronger in the long-run thanks to the rotation after making 13 changes to his starting line-up across the last three matches.

Wolves have taken four points from those fixtures, following up defeats to Bolton and victory at Burnley with a frustrating 1-1 draw at home to Portsmouth on Tuesday night.

While Peixoto has not been helped by several injuries to key players, the frequent changes to the team saw the manager asked directly whether he is still searching for the most effective line-up.

When asked directly if he knows his best team, he replied: “Yes. If I don’t know, then who knows?

“I have a team with quality, two players in each position like I talk about all the time.

“For sure I know which is the better team but the Championship is long. There are unfortunately going to be a lot of injuries, players are going to stay in good moments, bad moments.

“We have to manage this kind of situation. If you ask me, then I know (my best team) but I won’t tell you!”

Tuesday’s match was Wolves’ fourth in 10 days since the season resumed following the international break.

The three changes to the side saw Mateus Mane replace Jean-Ricner Bellegarde out wide, while Ladislav Krejci and Hugo Bueno returned in defence for Toti Gomes and Ghislain Konan.

Peixoto hopes to have both Adam Armstrong and Kieran Trippier back available for Saturday’s visit of Watford.

Armstrong has missed the last two matches with a back problem, while Trippier sat out Tuesday’s game with a groin complaint. Rodrigo Gomes remains a doubt with an ankle injury.

“He (Trippier) felt something,” said Peixoto. “I think it is not too bad but the medical department thought it was best not to take risks and lose him for a lot of time.

“On Saturday, I hope he can play.

“Adam, I think so. Today he ran more with more mobility and said he felt well. Rodrigo is better but is feeling a bit of pain.

“I don’t know, I am not a doctor! Adam I think is going to be ready to play. Rodrigo, I am not so sure.”
