Carlos Corberan responds to West Brom boo boys after latest draw at Preston

Carlos Corberan insists he "understands and respects" a frustrated response from Albion fans to "difficult decisions" he made at Preston.

The Baggies toiled to a lacklustre 1-1 draw at Deepdale where the hosts responded in the second half to cancel out Karlan Grant's opener and make it nine draws in 10 games for Albion.

An annoyed away end jeered Corberan's decision to withdrawn striker and top scorer Josh Maja five minutes from time as part of a double change introducing John Swift and Jed Wallace.

Boos followed at full-time with Albion's poor sequence extended to one win in 12 games.

The Spaniard hinted he has to make changes in relation to how he sees players "energy levels", in accordance to his other options.

Asked about the displeased response from travelling supporters, Corberan responded:  "I understand completely. They are right in any type of thoughts they have but me as a coach I need to make the decision I understand is the right decision according to the energy levels of the players and the players we can have.

"I understand that when you make some difficult decisions not everyone is going to respect and understand. I completely respect and understand (that)."

Albion were the better side in the first half in Lancashire and Grant's fine 13th-minute opener separated the team at the break.

Paul Heckingbottom made a change at the interval changing formation and introducing a striker for a defensive midfield and the Baggies started the season half changing to a five-man defence.

But the visitors could not adapt and were punished 10 minutes into the restart by Emil Riis' equaliser.

Corberan felt the key period in his side's slump was the first 15 minutes of the second half, when Albion could not get to grips with the hosts.

"One hundred per cent I agree, in the first half we were better than them, especially in the first 30 minutes of the first half," Corberan assessed.

"In the last 15 minutes of the first half we didn't understand the advantages well enough to create attacks.

"In the second half they were more aggressive, changed shape, put new players there. The first 15 minutes of the second half we suffered too much.

"We played a line of five but it was difficult to adapt to a line of five, with set-pieces and second phases from corners, it took more time than I wanted. We conceded a goal with a line of five from a first action that we should not concede.

"We need to do more things and better things on the pitch to win games. When we aren't winning we are not doing enough good things on the pitch."

Albion are the first club in the top four divisions in England as well as the top five leagues in Europe to reach 10 league draws for the season.

The Baggies return to The Hawthorns next, on Sunday, for the visit of leaders Sheffield United and then Coventry, now under Frank Lampard, a few days later.
