Got away with one with Damsgaard’s disallowed goal. Otherwise didn’t do a whole lot wrong. Didn’t have a whole lot to do.

Fine defensively but didn’t really deliver the goods when he got into dangerous areas. Surprise to see him taking corners.

Tyrone Mings

Shifted on to the right side of central defence for the first time in his Villa career. Solid enough. The trouble was happening around him.

Pau Torres

Looked to have a yard or too on Ouatarra, until he didn’t. Looked seriously shaky in the opening half-hour but did improve after the break.

Lucas Digne

Generally where he needed to be defensively but as with the rest of the Villa team, didn’t do a huge amount in attack.

Amadou Onana

Passing was a disappointment but it is also true Villa seemed to lose a bit of impetus when he was withdrawn just past the hour mark.

Injury is a concern for Villa. Not a player they can afford to lose for any great length of time.

Tried to make things happen but it is difficult to believe he is best utilised on the right flank. Did have Villa’s one real effort on target of the game.

Looked better once he had dropped back deeper and had the chance to dictate play. Tried but just couldn’t find a way to inspire his team.

Morgan Rogers

Went on a couple of decent runs but consistently found himself heading into trouble. Actually had a decent chance early in the second half but the chance was blocked.

Ollie Watkins

Two games in and Villa’s top scorer for the past two seasons has barely had a sight at goal. That says everything about the season so far.
