Black Country boxing star heads overseas as next bout confirmed

The fight will be his first outside the UK.

Rowley Regis boxing star Tyler Denny will head overseas for the first time in a bid to kickstart his career this summer.

The former European middleweight champion will face Ireland’s Callum Walsh at Dublin’s 3Arena on August 8, looking to get back on track after falling short in his bid to win the British title.

Denny suffered the fourth defeat in the paid ranks when he was outpointed by champion George Liddard in March, despite a strong performance.

The clash with Walsh now offers the 34-year-old the chance to show he is far from a spent force in the division.

Walsh is nine years his junior and a poster boy for Zuffa Boxing, the promotions company run by UFC chief Dana White, which has designs on shaking up the sport.

Born in Cork, Walsh is now based in California and is trained by the legendary Freddie Roach.

He has a perfect record of 16 wins from 16 fights including 11 knockouts but has fought most of his career at super welterweight.

Denny, who has a strong track record of beating previously unbeaten opponents, will provide a stern test and step up in class, for what is only his second fight outside the USA.

The Black Country fighter has endured a frustrating time since losing his European title to a second round knockout defeat to Hamzah Sheeraz at Wembley Stadium in September, 2024, a loss which ended a run of six straight wins.

He returned to the ring to beat Elvis Ahorgah in April last year but then had to wait 11 months for his next big chance against Liddard.

Despite a strong showing against the unbeaten champion, he was eventually beaten 116-112 on all three scorecards and will now be eager to bounce back.
