Aston Villa winger closing in on post-deadline day exit
The player is not part of Unai Emery’s plans.
Villa are in talks to sell winger Leon Bailey to Olympiacos.
The Jamaica international is surplus to requirements at Villa Park and negotiations are underway over a sale to the Greek club.
Bailey was omitted from Villa’s pre-season tour to the Far East in order to complete a move to Hull City, which then broke down.
He has since been training alone at Bodymoor Heath with Olympiacos now offering him an exit route. The Greek transfer window remains open for another fortnight.
Bailey joined Villa for £25million from Bayer Leverkusen five years ago and played a key role in the club reaching the Champions League during the 2023-24 season.
But the rest of his time at Villa Park has been blighted by poor form and injury. He spent the first half of last season on loan at Roma before returning to Villa in January.
In total, he has made 123 Premier League appearances, with 51 of those coming from the bench.
With the English transfer window closed, Villa have turned their focus to extending some player contracts.
Ian Maatsen, Lamare Bogarde and Emi Buendia are among those who are expected to discuss extensions in the coming weeks and months.
