Aston Villa team news: Three full debutants in Coventry Cup clash

Unai Emery has made seven changes to his team for the midweek cup match.

Villa boss Unai Emery has handed three new signings full debuts in Wednesday’s Carabao Cup tie at Coventry.

Ibrahim Mbaye, Matteo Ruggeri and Taylor Harwood-Bellis are all in the starting XI for the third round clash at the CBS Arena.

They are among seven changes from the side which started Saturday’s 2-1 Premier League defeat to Nottingham Forest.

Tammy Abraham has been handed a first start of the season up front, with Lamare Bogarde brought in to partner Ross Barkley in the heart of midfield.

But there is no place in the team for Chelsea loanee Alejandro Garnacho, who is on a bench which also features the fit-again Matty Cash.

Midfielder Joao Gomes, meanwhile, is not involved in the squad.

Villa are facing the Sky Blues for the first time since 2001. Their last meeting was the match which saw their Midlands rivals relegated from the Premier League.
