Aston Villa sweat on defender following injury
Villa are waiting to discover how long Tyrone Mings will be out with a hamstring injury sustained in Saturday’s defeat at Liverpool.
Boss Unai Emery fears the defender will be absent for at least several weeks after leaving the field in stoppage time at Anfield.
Mings, who had replaced Pau Torres as a 74th minute substitute, picked up the injury while chasing back to stop Mo Salah going through on goal as Liverpool attacked on the counter.
The 32-year-old, in obvious discomfort as he later departed Anfield, was due to undergo a scan on Sunday to determine the exact extent of the problem.
Speaking immediately after Saturday’s match, Emery said: “It’s his hamstring. Normally some weeks he will be out with an injury like that.
“But tomorrow we will test him and know exactly how much he will stay out of the team.”
Mings, making just his second appearance since suffering an ankle injury against Fulham in September, would likely have started Villa’s next match at home to Maccabi Tel Aviv in the Europa League on Thursday.
Torres is instead likely to start as Villa look to get back to winning ways in Europe following last month’s defeat to Go Ahead Eagles.
Emery remains hopeful Emi Buendia (foot) could be back available while midfielder Youri Tielemans could return to training this week following a calf injury.
