Aston Villa player ratings: Pair get 8s after superb Liverpool win
We rate the players after Aston Villa beat Liverpool 4-2 to book their Champions League place.
EMI MARTINEZ
Saved by an offside flag in the first half when he spilled Gravenberch’s shot into the path of Gakpo. A good mistake to get out of the way.
Solid: 6
MATTY CASH
After a slow start steadily got to grips with the tricky Ngumoha. An improvement on recent showings which augers well.
Improved: 7
EZRI KONSA
Always looked in control. Involved in a rather bizarre spat with Alexis Mac Allister. A confident performance.
Assured: 7
PAU TORRES
Caught the eye with some neat passing and denied a goal by Mamardashvili. Always looking to be positive in his play.
Passing: 7
LUCAS DIGNE
Another assist to add to his collection. Showed a nice turn of pace. Always feels like a player for the big game.
Assist: 7
VICTOR LINDELOF
Not a bad performance by any means but he struggled to match the midfield performance seen against Forest. Subbed at the break.
Steady: 6
YOURI TIELEMANS
Still not quite at his best but looked more confident in his work than at Burnley. Covered plenty of ground. Hand in the third.
Confident: 7
JOHN MCGINN
A sublime goal to effectively seal the deal and cap another excellent display from the skipper. Set the tone.
Goal: 8
MORGAN ROGERS
Hit double figures in the Premier League for the season with a super effort, then set up Watkins for Villa’s second.
Busy: 8
EMI BUENDIA
Struggled to get into the game initially but came alive with the rest of the team in the second half. So close to a super goal.
Denied: 7
OLLIE WATKINS
Another big performance at home from the striker, who gave the Liverpool defence all they could handle and more.
Double: 8
