Aston Villa player ratings: Match-winner scores big after victory over City

We rate the players after Villa finished their season with a 2-1 win at Manchester City.

MARCO BIZOT

A brilliant save to deny Reijnders when City were in control came to be a significant moment. Has proven an excellent signing.

Save: 7

ANDRES GARCIA

Culpable for the first goal when he flicked on a corner at the near post. Looked some way off the pace and taken off at the break.

Poor: 4

VICTOR LINDELOF

Back in the defence but there was no change to his consistency. Was prepared to put his body on the line.

Solid: 7

TYRONE MINGS

A return to form after some difficult recent starts. Won countless headers. A positive end to what, individually, has been a tricky season at times.

Headers: 7

IAN MAATSEN

Looked like he would sum up Villa’s afternoon when he fell over inside the first five minutes. Improved markedly in the second half.

Improvement: 6

LAMARE BOGARDE

Covered plenty of ground in the middle of the park. Something of a return to form after a tough night against Tottenham earlier in the month.

Running: 6

DOUGLAS LUIZ

This was a decent enough performance from the Brazilian, who has struggled to rediscover his former glories while back on loan.

Steady: 6

LEON BAILEY

No shortage of effort, in what may well have been his final match for the club. Should have scored at least one.

Determined: 6

ROSS BARKLEY

Looked up for it from the start and he became a much bigger factor in the second half, as Villa began to take control.

Bright: 7

EMI BUENDIA

Only knows one way to play and that is with full energy. One of those days when things didn’t come off.

Tenacious: 6

OLLIE WATKINS

Barely saw the ball in the first half but then became the man-of-the match. His resurgence really has been remarkable.

Brace: 8

SUBSTITUTES

Matty Cash 7 (for Garcia, HT), Pau Torres 7 (for Lindelof, 73), Amadou Onana 6 (for Bogarde, 73), Youri Tielemans (for Luiz, 73), John McGinn (for Barkley, 86) Subs not used: Digne, Burrowes, Hemmings, Wright (gk).
