Aston Villa player ratings: Low marks for midfield in Forest defeat

You wondered whether those saves from Munoz and Schlager would prove crucial but there was nothing he could do about the winner.

Saves 7

AARON WAN-BISSAKA

Did some decent work at times defensively but offered next to nothing going forward. Not as solid as Villa would have hoped to this point.

Moments 5

VICTOR LINDELOF

Should have scored Villa’s first league goal inside the first 10 minutes but shot straight at the keeper. Made some key interventions defensively.

Miss 7

PAU TORRES

His injury will be a concern for Villa. The international break feels like it is coming at the right time.

Injured N/A

IAN MAATSEN

His injury changed the game. Had been having a rather mixed afternoon to that point, falling away after a decent first half.

Hurt 6

BOUBACAR KAMARA

Gave the ball away too easily in the build-up to Forest’s opener and endured something of a nightmare start to the second half. Looks off the pace.

Poor 5

ROSS BARKLEY

Some nice touches but this was a step down on his previous performances this season. Far too loose in possession.

Slack 5

JOHN MCGINN

Delivered the cross for Villa’s goal and generally tried to get his team moving. Switched positions in the second half.

Battled 6

EMI BUENDIA

A disappointing afternoon when too much of what he tried simply didn’t come off. Villa need more from him at this time.

Wayward 5

GEORGE HEMMINGS

Another who didn’t quite hit the heights of recent performances. Looked a beat off the play for much of the first half and was subbed at the break.

Subdued 5

NICOLAS JACKSON

Got the crowd on their feet with one run in the first half when he held off Murillo. Picked up a daft booking and was subbed at the break.

Frustrated 5

SUBSTITUTES
