Aston Villa handed major boost with key player nearing return
The midfielder has been out since January.
Villa have been handed a major boost with midfielder Boubacar Kamara targeting a return for pre-season training.
The 26-year-old France international is nearing a recovery from the knee injury he sustained during a 2-1 FA Cup win at Tottenham in January.
Kamara was ruled out for the remainder of a season which saw Villa secure a fourth-placed Premier League finish and win the Europa League.
But he is hopeful of returning in time for the start of the new season, delivering a big boost to boss Unai Emery.
Villa’s players not currently at the World Cup are scheduled to report back to Bodymoor Heath early next month.
The club’s first friendly fixture is at Walsall on Tuesday, July 21.
Kamara will be closely monitored on his return, with Villa unlikely to take any undue risks with a player who ranks among the most under-rated in the Premier League.
Villa’s first competitive fixture of the season is against Paris Saint-Germain in the European Super Cup on August 12.
They open their Premier League campaign away at Brighton on Sunday, August 23.
