Emi Martinez - 8

Commanding - Produced a crucial save to deny Son Heung-min from point-blank range at 1-0 and expertly read the play to intercept Pedro Porro's teasing ball in behind.

Andres Garcia - 7

Balanced - Fulfilled his defensive duties diligently and offered a threat when advancing forward down the right in an all-round solid display.

Ezri Konsa - 7

Blow - Pulled up on the edge of the box after tweaking a muscle and was forced off midway into the first half.

Boubacar Kamara - 8

Composed - Looked solid defensively and was composure personified on the ball as his distribution played a key role in helping Villa build from the back so successfully.

Lucas Digne - 7

Good - Showed good energy down the left in attack and defended well for the majority of the game, although he was nearly punished for a miscued clearance when Kevin Danso squandered a late chance.

John McGinn - 8

Alert - Read the game expertly to help Villa win the midfield battle with a string of interceptions and driving runs forward.

Youri Tielemans - 7

Elegant - Constantly looked to break the lines from deep and dragged his only chance wide when he galloped into space during the opening 15 minutes.

Leon Bailey - 7

Tenacious - Forced a pair of stops out of Kinsky although he was probably better placed to feed Donyell Malen with his second chance. He also tracked back regularly to help out Andres Garcia with a couple of tenacious tackles.

Star man - Shone in the 10 role and was the architect of the first goal as he picked the ball up between the lines and picked out Jacob Ramsey. He then showcased his predatory instincts inside the box to get on the score sheet himself just past the hour.

Jacob Ramsey - 8

Threat - Took just 59 seconds to give Villa the lead with a powerful finish through the gloves of Kinsky and was denied three more times by the Spurs shot-stopper.

Donyell Malen - 7

Promising - Showed good energy on his full debut and was a threat in the build-up. He perhaps should've done better when he hit the side netting in the first half but his low cross ultimately led to Villa's second.

Substitutes

Lamare Bogarde (for Konsa, 27) - 6

Mixed - Slotted in seamlessly for the majority of the game after replacing Konsa but lost Mathys Tel at the back post as he pulled a goal back in stoppage time.

Marcus Rashford (for Malen, 66) - 6

Had a promising opening when he was fed in behind late on but his heavy touch allowed Archie Gray to shuffle across and intercept.

Marco Asensio (for Bailey, 66) - 7

Silky - Enjoyed a couple of nice touches especially when he linked with Rogers who rippled the side netting with another effort.

Ian Maatsen (for Digne, 81)

Unused: Olsen, Zych, Jimoh-Aloba.
