Aston Villa 0 Brentford 1: Player ratings
We rate the players after Aston Villa suffer a 1-0 home defeat to Brentford.
EMI MARTINEZ
Had no chance with the finish. Otherwise, didn’t really have a serious shot to save. Looked shaky when dealing with Brentford’s long throws.
Nervy: 6
MATTY CASH
The second time this season an opponent has been sent-off for kicking out at Cash. The second time this season Villa have failed to capitalise.
Kick: 7
EZRI KONSA
Missed a very good chance in the first half after being picked out by Luiz’s free-kick. Solid defensively, as usual.
Miss: 7
PAU TORRES
Guilty of playing Ouattara onside for the goal. Some decent passing at times and had little to do defensively in the second half.
Steady: 6
IAN MAATSEN
A useful outlet in attack but he will have been disappointed with his final ball. Volleyed wide in the first half. Kept working.
Busy: 6
LAMARE BOGARDE
Got through plenty of work in the first half before being brought off at the break as Emery went for a more attacking formation.
Hooked: 6
DOUGLAS LUIZ
Given a huge reception on his return and showed some nice touches, while his set-piece delivery was good. Will get better.
Promising: 6
JADON SANCHO
No shortage of running but like the rest of Villa’s attackers he lacked the finesse required against stubborn opponents.
Moments: 5
MORGAN ROGERS
Set Abraham away for a big early chance. Always involved but seemed to get frustrated as the game went on and tried to do too much himself.
Denied: 5
EMI BUENDIA
Some nice moments, coupled with some frustrating ones. Kept plugging away but could not create that bit of magic to break through in the final half-hour.
Frustrated: 5
TAMMY ABRAHAM
Denied by Kelleher in the first half and then denied by VAR in the second. Deserved better on his second debut for the club.
Robbed: 6
SUBSTITUTES
Leon Bailey 5 (for Bogarde, HT), Harvey Elliott (for Sancho, 77) Subs not used: Mings, Lindelof, Barkley, Digne, Onana, Hemmings, Bizot (gk).
