Arsenal v Wolves preview: Rob Edwards urging fine margins improvement
Rob Edwards has warned his Wolves players that they 'don't stand a chance' against Arsenal tonight if they do not get the basics right.
A disjointed and chaotic second half saw Wolves lose 4-1 at home to Manchester United last time out in an evening where Wolves made too many mistakes.
Heading to the league leaders the odds are against them getting anything from the game and Edwards has urged his side to keep it simple and stay focused if they want to pull off an upset.
"We've got to do the basics really well," Edwards said.
"We've got to value doing the boring things, the unseen things, better. We've got to run harder, when we lose the ball, we've got to react quicker.
"We've got to sprint, we've got to fight and win more duels.
"In certain situations, when we are in control of the game, we've got to make sure that we retain control of the game and it doesn't just flip straight to the opposition in dangerous positions, which too often it did against United the other day.
"That could be from our own throw-in, it could be from a goal kick. These are basic things that we're having to re-go over and really value and the lads need to see a value in it as well.
"I think Arsenal are arguably the best at every aspect of the game. They value every part of it. If we don't do it in this one, then we don't stand a chance.
"They are strong in every department.
"But like everyone, there's going to be space. If they come out of your high press, then there's going to be space somewhere on the pitch. If they get back into a shape, then you might be able to take a little bit more control.
"There's always spaces on the pitch where the opposition are always going to give you something.
"But I think what they're really good at, probably better than anyone else, is giving you very little."
Edwards admitted he has pointed out those mistakes this week in an attempt to improve his side.
The head coach has tried to impart a clear message on how to tackle this match, but says his players have to deliver if the game plan has any chance of being successful.
"We do need something from them," Edwards added.
"When we're always going into a game like this where clearly we're the underdogs, it's important to have real clarity with what we're doing from a defensive point of view and obviously all aspects of the game, we've got to try and give something.
"This is how we can try and win as well and give some belief. This is how we can carry some threat.
"It's really important that we stand in front of the group and we can deliver that and the lads then believe and engage in it as well. We've had a few days to be able to work on it and train it, show it. I'll stand there and I'll believe it and then of course the lads are the ones that go over the white line and hopefully then can deliver as well.
"We've got a good group of players, but they're hurting at the moment, so we need to try and keep being consistent and try as much as possible to keep giving that belief. We've got to deliver."
Matt Doherty is likely to be in the squad today, according to Edwards, while Jean-Ricner Bellegarde has been ruled out for at least six weeks due to a hamstring injury.
