Aston Villa eyeing move for PSG star
Villa are keeping tabs on Paris Saint-Germain teenager Ibrahim Mbaye as they weigh-up summer transfer targets.
The 18-year-old midfielder was of interest to Unai Emery during the January window but a move was never close to materialising.
Villa could now rekindle their interest in the summer should they succeed in qualifying for next season’s Champions League.
Mbaye, already a full Senegal international, is considered among the brightest young talents in Europe and has made 25 appearances for PSG this season.
But the majority of those were off the bench and the chance to play more regularly elsewhere could appeal, albeit Villa would likely face strong competition for his signature.
Villa’s transfer strategy will again rest heavily on whether they qualify for the Champions League.
The club was heavily restricted last summer after missing out and while they would still need to be mindful of Uefa’s financial fair play rules, a return to Europe’s elite club competition would provide greater wriggle room in the market.
It would also leave them better placed to fend off approaches for their existing star players, with interest in England international Morgan Rogers inevitable following another impressive campaign.
