Jadon Sancho spurred on by Unai Emery's backing at Aston Villa
Jadon Sancho is targeting a big finish to the season at Villa - believing he has earned the trust of boss Unai Emery.
The on loan Manchester United winger is pushing for a recall to the starting line-up for Friday’s derby at Wolves following a bright substitute appearance in last weekend’s draw with Leeds.
Sancho, still to score in the Premier League for Villa, claims to have renewed confidence after seeing his playing time increase over the past two months.
The 25-year-old had been limited to substitute appearances in the Premier League before getting his first start in December’s 4-1 defeat at Arsenal.
He then made four straight top flight starts before the draw with Leeds, with Emery telling him he can play a major role over the second half of the season.
Sancho said: “When you have a manager who backs you, you go into training with a lot more confidence and obviously matchdays.
“I am just happy that I am playing and hopefully I can help the team throughout the season.”
Villa head to Molineux seeking a performance and result to restore momentum heading into back-to-back league matches against rivals Chelsea and Manchester United.
Emery’s men hold a six-point advantage over the former in the race for Champions League football.
Sancho said: “Being third in the Premier League is not a bad position to be in.
“I think the team, from where we began to where we are now, has done an amazing job.
“But the job is not finished. We have got to carry on, each game.”
