'Can do a lot more' - Jadon Sancho gives honest assessment after heading Aston Villa to victory
Match-winner Jadon Sancho has set his sights on a strong second half of the season for Villa after finally getting off the mark at Fenerbahce.
The Manchester United loanee netted the only goal in Istanbul as Unai Emery’s men guaranteed a top-eight Europa League finish with a 1-0 victory.
It was Sancho’s first strike in his 19th appearance for the club and also the first headed goal of his career.
He said: “I know I can do a lot more and I am very hard on myself, in that respect.
“But I am just very grateful to score my first goal and I hope it continues.
“The manager keeps telling me to be positive, every time I play. It is nice to have a manager who backs you. Every chance I get, I am going to give 100 per cent.”
Sancho headed home Matty Cash’s 25th minute cross before Villa, who spurned a host of chances to extend their advantage, were then grateful to goalkeeper Marco Bizot for making several saves in the second half.
Victory moved Villa up to second in the Europa League table and a win over RB Salzburg next week would guarantee they play the second leg of every knockout round at home.
Sancho said: “We have to take it game by game. We can’t get too far ahead of ourselves.”
