Aston Villa dealt goalkeeper blow for key Europa League fixture
Villa will be without goalkeeper Emi Martinez for Thursday’s Europa League tie at Fenerbahce.
The Argentina international has not travelled to Turkey with the rest of the squad as he continues to deal with a calf injury.
Martinez was substituted at half-time in Villa’s 0-0 draw at Crystal Palace earlier this month and then missed their FA Cup win at Tottenham.
Though the 33-year-old returned for Sunday’s match with Everton, he was responsible for an error which led to Thierno Barry scoring the only goal of the match for the visitors.
Martinez’s absence means Marco Bizot will deputise for the fourth time in the Europa League this season.
Villa will also be without Amadou Onana, Ross Barkley and John McGinn for the match in Turkey.
Boss Unai Emery said McGinn, who suffered a knee injury early in the clash with Everton, could be missing for “some weeks” depending on the results of tests.
"We are still waiting because he is still visiting some doctors to have a decision what to do," Emery explained.
"It could be some weeks. It depends on the doctor and for him how he feels."
