Northampton 4-2 Walsall - player ratings: Four 5s and three 7s in EFL Trophy exit
George Bennett gives his Walsall player ratings from their 4-2 defeat at Northampton Town in the EFL Trophy round of 16.
SAM HORNBY
Made a couple of excellent saves, but conceded an own goal and survived another comical moment when the referee blew for a foul after his punched clearance was diverted into the net.
Mixed: 6
HARRISON BURKE
Survived the first half largely unscathed on his return from injury, but was caught on the ball when Jack Vale was denied one-on-one by Hornby after the break.
Faded: 6
STAN STRAW
Strong in the challenge and largely stood up to the challenge well until he misjudged the flight of the ball for Northampton's third, which he recovered well from.
Recovered: 7
RICO BROWNE
Had a difficult evening up against a tricky customer in the form of Kamarai Swyer and was often beaten by the Northampton danger man.
Difficult: 5
LEWIS WARRINGTON
Collected an early assist for Albert Adomah's opener on his return to the team but flattered to deceive for much of the game.
Passive: 6
ALBERT ADOMAH
Opened the scoring with a glancing header at the back post but faded in the second half as Northampton made inroads down the left.
Faded: 6
ALEX PATTISON
Largely anonymous on his first start - touching the ball just nine times in total. Will at least benefit from 45 minutes in the tank.
Quiet: 5
COURTNEY CLARKE
His long throw led to the opening goal but did give the ball away cheaply when Northampton came close twice before the break.
Varied: 6
MASON HANCOCK
Acquitted himself well on his return from a five-month lay-off and found his rhythm in the game as he showed flashes of his quality.
Flashes: 6
RICO RICHARDS
Used his body well at times and looked much more threatening alongside Daniel Kanu, who converted from Richards' threaded pass.
Assist: 7
JAMILLE MATT
Returned to the XI after a minor knee issue but rarely got himself into the game on an evening that passed him by.
Ineffective: 5
Subs: Daniel Kanu (for Matt, 46) 7; Jake Hollman (for Pattison, 46) 6; Jamie Jellis (for Clarke, 57) 6; Vincent Harper (for Hancock, 64) 6; Priestley Farquharson (for Burke, 64) 5.
