Rogers and Buendia both scored again against Spurs as Unai Emery’s team produced a repeat of October’s 2-1 Premier League win in Saturday’s third round tie.

It was Villa’s 19th win in their last 23 matches in all competitions and Rogers is their top scorer after netting his eighth of the season.

The Halesowen-born 23-year-old is targeting a big second half of the campaign as he looks to secure a place in England's starting XI at the World Cup, amid competition from his childhood friend and Real Madrid star Jude Bellingham.

Buendia believes Rogers should get the nod if he keeps performing at his current level.

He said: “Morgan is a top player. He is doing well. He has a lot of potential as well so he needs to keep going.
