Unai Emery provides updates on injured Aston Villa stars
Villa have been dealt a blow after midfielder Amadou Onana was ruled out for several weeks through injury.
The Belgium international was forced off at half-time in Tuesday’s 4-1 defeat at Arsenal and Emery has confirmed he faces a spell on the sidelines.
Villa, who host Nottingham Forest on Saturday, will continue to be without defenders Tyrone Mings and Pau Torres for the next couple of weeks.
Ross Barkley is a long-term absentee, while new signing Alysson is unavailable as his move from Gremio awaits international clearance. Forward Evann Guessand is currently away with Ivory Coast at the African Cup of Nations.
Emery said: “They are not available for tomorrow: Tyrone Mings, Pau Torres, Amadou Onana, Ross Barkley, Harvey Elliott, Evann Guessand, and Alysson.
“When they are expected to come back with the team, I don’t know. Onana got injured on Tuesday; Pau got injured one month ago.
“Pau may be out for one or two weeks, and Mings as well. Onana, more.”
Onana has struggled with persistent injuries since becoming Villa’s record signing when he joined from Everton for £50million in the summer of 2024.
Villa host Forest aiming to bounce back from the defeat at Arsenal which ended a club record-equalling 11-match winning run.
