Aston Villa 2 Manchester United 1: Player ratings

The player who best epitomises Villa’s turnaround over the past three months. Left the pitch blowing kisses after making a couple of big saves.

Saves: 7

MATTY CASH

Villa’s most consistent player of the season was guilty of a big error but then redeemed himself with a block to deny Dorgu in the second half.

Redemption: 6

EZRI KONSA

Made several key headers and interventions and brought his typical level of calm to proceedings. Another strong performance.

Strong: 7

VICTOR LINDELOF

Another good game for the Sweden international at the heart of defence. Looks some way the best of Villa’s deadline day deals.

Assured: 7

IAN MAATSEN

Some errors in possession but a good defensive performance in which his pace helped Villa get out of trouble on more than one occasion.

Pace: 7

BOUBACAR KAMARA

Very good at winning the ball but was caught in possession more than once when bringing the ball out of defence, which caused problems. Not at his best.

Mistakes: 6

AMADOU ONANA

Villa’s midfield is formidable but as a unit they weren’t quite at their best here. Onana never stopped working. Did well winning the ball.

Tackles: 7

JOHN MCGINN

Tested Lammens early with a shot and gave the kind of performance you have come to expect from the Villa skipper. Looked to drive his team on.

Determined: 7

YOURI TIELEMANS

Plenty of good touches from the Belgium international but his 50-yard run to win the ball back off Cunha in the closing stages summed up Villa’s desire.

Heart: 7

MORGAN ROGERS

The star of the show for the second straight Sunday. His third brace of the season and his first goals at Villa Park of the campaign. A fine talent.

Finishes: 8

OLLIE WATKINS

Denied an early goal by good defending from Heaven but while this was a frustrating day, he played his part in the winner.

Assist: 6
