"I get it" - Wolves boss on fan protests and anger following Manchester United defeat

Wolves went on to lose 4-1, marking 13 defeats from 15 Premier League games, and Edwards understands the fans' anger.

"I understand the frustration, totally," the head coach said.

"It's been six months since we've last won, so I get it.

"I'm not going to sit here and dress it up or anything like that at all. I understand that side of it.

"I'd love it if they supported the players. But I I understand the frustration because of the situation that we're in.

"The players are trying, I can promise that, but there's clearly a lack of confidence and a lack of belief there. They're not able to show their best and that becomes difficult."

Edwards still applauded all four corners of the ground, as he has done after each match, and he got somewhat of a mixed reaction from those left in the South Bank.

He said: "I just applauded the fans and obviously showed my appreciation. 

"I know how difficult it is for them at the moment.

"It's been a long time since the club has won. So if I was a supporter at the moment, I'd be feeling very frustrated as well."

When asked about the possibility of six more months of unrest if performances and results do not improve, Edwards added: "I hope not and we've got to try and improve and find that belief.

"I understand it's a really difficult moment at the moment, at this present time. 

"Right now when emotions are high, I'll come out and try and be bullish, but at the same time, I'm hurting as well because it was a difficult night. 

"We stood there and then when you're 3-1 down, there's a decent amount of the game to go, you're thinking right, we want to try and show something to get back in the game here, but we don't want to get opened up even more.

"It's a tough night. I'm only thinking about that right now, not the next six months."

Fans also cheered sarcastically when Jorgen Strand Larsen and Jhon Arias were substituted off in the second half and Larsen was seemingly furious at the reaction.

Edwards was seen talking to the striker on two occasions to ensure he did not react.

"I said 'stay positive and don't react now'," Edwards explained when asked what he said to Larsen.

"It'll hurt him. He's proud. He's one of the lads that was really speaking before the game in the huddle in the changing room.

"He's really passionate and spoke really well. He's trying and it wasn't that long ago, against Aston Villa, he was brilliant. 

"It was a difficult night tonight, so I just told him to, 'it's difficult now, I know that, but keep your head down'."

Meanwhile, Edwards was unable to offer an update on Jean-Ricner Bellegarde's injury after he hobbled off in the second half, while he did offer a timeline for Marshall Munetsi who came off injured against Nottingham Forest with a calf problem.

On Bellegarde he said: "I can't give you anything at the moment, it didn't look good, did it?

"To be honest, I haven't got any detail on that one at the moment. I hope he's OK. 

"He was a positive, wasn't he?"

On Munetsi, he added: "It'll be weeks, I don't know how many at the moment, but I think at the moment it's looking like at least six weeks, I think."
