Finnigan scored his first two league goals for the club during the Saddlers' 4-2 win against Newport County at Rodney Parade on Saturday.

The 22-year-old was making his first league start in five games after replacing Brandon Comley, who sat out due to illness.

Since joining on loan from League One outfit Blackpool, Finnigan has registered three goals and one assist for Walsall across all competitions.

The victory at Newport kept Walsall at the top of the pile in League Two and ended a three-match league winless run.

Finnigan scored his only other goal in a 3-1 win at Shrewsbury Town in the EFL Trophy on September 2.

Walsall have also appointed Martyn Bowles as their new academy departure following the departure of Rob Williams.

Williams spent over three years in the role and announced that he would be leaving for a new challenge last week.

Bowles has been part of the academy set-up since June 2024 as head of coaching, but has accepted the chance to succeed Williams in the dugout.
